October 9th - 13th

Thank you for taking the time to read our third grade blog. Make sure you are checking it weekly for calendar updates, what we are learning,  a glimpse at our week in pictures!

What are we learning?

Math
In math, learners will continue to build on their understanding of place value as they invent strategies, use standard algorithm and/or use mental math and the properties of operations to construct methods for adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. Learners will begin to relate these strategies to addition and subtraction word problems.

HomefunReflex math will hopefully begin in October. We are still waiting for all learners to be finalized in the system by the technology department. Be on the lookout for a paper coming home with login information and directions on creating a parent account!

Language Arts
In reading, learners will participate in a Junior Great Books The Man Whose Trade was Tricks to reinforce generating questions, and using higher level thinking skills during the discussion of the story. In writing, learners will continue working on drafts of their choice using the writing process, and will finish conferencing with writing goal setting with their teachers. The next spelling test will be on Friday, October 13th.

Homefun: Practice spelling words; Spelling Test on Friday, October 13th. Continue to work on the 30 Book Challenge.

Science
In science, leaners will continue to explore different forms of energy, including: mechanical, light, sound, and heat/thermal in everyday life.

Social Studies
In social studies, learners will continue to discuss the purpose of various important U.S. documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution/Bill of Rights.

Tardies

Please make sure that you are getting your children to school by or before 7:40. Leaners that aren't in the classroom by 7:40 are sent to the office and counted tardy. Our learning day starts at 7:40 and we want to make sure that all of our learners are present and on time! Thank you for your help!! Your child can get to school as early as 7:20 to spend time in the gym with their peers.
