From 3rd Grade:
Mark your calendars! Our 3rd grade field trip to the Frisco Sci-Tech Discovery Center will be April 5th.

Please ask your child if he or she needs headphones at school! It makes using technology a little easier when everyone can hear. 😊

Cafeteria expectations: It is a school-wide expectation that when the lights are off, our voices are off. Please help us with following these when you are eating with your child in the cafeteria

Background Check: Please take a minute to fill out a background check. It only takes a few minutes and the link is below. You will need to have completed a background check to volunteer at school and attend special events and field trips.http://www.coppellisd.com/Page/22




PEEK AT OUR WEEK



Math: In math next week we will finish our learning about 3-dimensional shapes. Our learners will create digital projects to showcase all we have learned. We will also spend time reviewing different types of graphs and ways to collect and interpret data. If your child would like to do math workbook pages next week, they are 505-510.

Science: In science, we will continue our learning about living things and their ecosystems. We will begin to look at plant and animal characteristics, and how they adapt to their environments.

Social Studies: This week in social studies, we will begin talking about family and cultural traditions. We will build on this unit and focus on how diversity impacts our community.

Reading: In reading this week, we will focus on the important comprehension skill of inferencing. As we near STAAR, we will be reviewing essential vocabulary. Please see the Quizlet for our reading STAAR vocabulary here.

Writing: In writing, we will begin a persuasive writing unit. We will choose a topic and go through the writing process to complete our writing.


HOMEWORK


Math: Please remember that we have started a new homework routine. Your child should be coming home with a new homework page that will be due on Friday, March 30th. Reflex Math still needs to be done 3 times a week. If you would like to do workbook pages for this week, they are 505-510.


Reading: We will continue our new Of The Week (OTW) homework. Learners will have one activity each night, then a short comprehension quiz on Friday. Starting this week, we will also be adding vocabulary homework. Vocabulary homework is also due every Friday.

Spelling: Spelling Test Friday, April 14.

Also if you are wanting to chaperone, please let your child's teacher know! Please make sure you have completed a background check and paid your $9 entrance fee.

Math: In math next week we will continue exploring two-dimensional figures. We will learn about how to compose and decompose different shapes. We will also learn about congruent and similar shapes. We have a new homework page that will be due on March 31st. If you would like to do workbook pages for this week, they are 499-504

Science: This week in science, we will be introducing our life science unit! We will start with an overview of vocabulary for the unit. We will also review what the learners already know about the needs of living things and build on that knowledge throughout the week.

Social Studies: This week in social studies, we will begin an economics unit. We we focus on understanding the difference between goods and services.

Reading: In reading this week, we will focus on the important comprehension skill of inferencing. As we near STAAR, we will be reviewing essential vocabulary. Please see the Quizlet for our reading STAAR vocabulary here.

Writing: In writing, we will focus on multiple meaning words, like homographs and homonyms, and other playful language, like palindromes and idioms.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

From P.E.:
We have extended our deadline for our annual campus service learning fundraiser to help support the American Heart Association. In the past five years, we have raised of $100,000 to support the organization and funded special grants to help heart surgeries and research. We are hope to reach the goal of $20,000 this year! If we reach our goal... Mr. Shelby and Dr. Applegate will have buckets of slime poured on them! You can get a “jump start” by fundraising online at www.heart.org/jump or www.heart.org/hoops.

Math: This week we will continue exploring area and perimeter. Our learners will be able to find the area of composite figures and find the perimeter of polygons. We will also be applying these skills to problem solving.

Science: We will be observing daily weather patterns. We will record the weather each day and graph it as well.

Social Studies: This week we will  be finishing our unit on nonfiction text features

Reading: we will continue our unit on traditional literature, focusing on fables this week. We will have an OTW due Friday, along with an OTW quiz.

Writing: This week we will work on organizing our writing and writing our own fables.


HOMEWORK

Math: Please remember that we have started a new homework routine. Your child should be coming home with a new homework page that will be due on Friday, March 10th. Reflex Math still needs to be done 3 times a week. If you would still like to complete workbook pages, those pages for this week are 557-562.

Reading: We will continue our new Of The Week (OTW) homework. Learners will have one activity each night, then a short comprehension quiz on Friday.

Spelling: There is no more Spelling Choice Board homework. Students are responsible for learning their words and will take the next post test Friday, March 10th, but the choice board is not part of the homework.
