Please make note of the following STAAR testing dates:
PLEASE NOTE: Since all library books will be due before the STAAR dates they will not be allowed to check out books to have during the test.  Please make sure to send 2-3 books that your child can read once they have completed the test.  Once they finish they will need to stay seated and quiet while the others work on their test.

Optional Parent Conference
As we enter the last nine weeks, I want to be sure you know that we're here if you have any questions or if you would like to touch base about your son/daughter's progress. By now you've had a chance to view the third nine weeks report card and winter MAP assessments. If you have any questions, we would like to extend the offer to speak with your learner's teacher via phone call or Zoom. This is completely OPTIONAL

iPad Charging
Please ensure that your child is plugging in their iPad when they get home and charging it overnight. We have had an issue with a large group of learners in each class coming to school with their iPad dead. This makes charging at the same time hard and distancing even harder. We would love your help with iPads arriving at school charged.

Action Item for All Parents - Returning School Enrollment

CISD is excited to welcome your child back to the district for the 2021-2022 school year and our continued partnership in the educational journey of your child. All returning families are required to enroll each year. You should have received an email from PowerSchool with a “snapcode” on April 27th. If you did not, please email input@coppellisd.com and request your code. We encourage families to fill this out as soon as possible to confirm enrollment for the next school year. This will secure your child's spot at Town Center for the coming year and help us finalize staffing needs.

Math: We are bringing the heat in math this week with a review that is on fire! Using the heat maps from the math practice STAAR administration, learners will choose the 3 areas where the most growth is needed. They will spend the week reviewing those topics, and math teachers will be pulling small groups that target these skills. Things will be turned in throughout the week, and please make sure your virtual learner is checking his messages on Schoology so he can see if he’s needed in that day’s small group(s). We are on fire in 3rd grade math!
This is the last week (week 3) of Math Club! Math Club Week 2 Lunch Bunch is rescheduled to this week because of weather (so many kiddos participated we have to eat outside!)

Language Arts: With the week before STAAR we will be prepping the kids with all the tools and strategies necessary so that they feel confident going into the testing day.

Science: We will be taking a closer look at animals and their habitats.  We will focus on how animals specific body parts and adaptations help them to survive in their environment.

Social Studies: In Social Studies, the learners will be presenting on their historical figure that they have been researching.  Last week they created an infographic and they will use that the showcase their individual while presenting.

Dance Party Fundraiser

3rd families!

We’re almost there! Our TCE Dance Party fundraiser kicks off in one week. We’ve already gotten donations to help our school! As a reminder our goal is to raise $12,000 for classroom grants and materials to support our school. Are we ready to be the top fundraising grade?

Here are 3 things we can do to help support our school through this fundraiser:

  1. Register on funrun.com tonight. It’s very easy
  2. Share about our fundraiser with family and friends using the SHARE BUTTON on
  3. Give a donation if you are able to; though all students will fully participate regardless of financial participation.

There’s also this very cool video called the Student Star Video that you can create for your student on the funrun.com website. You’ll have to see for yourself, but you upload a photo of your child and they become part of the video. It's a great item to share with your friends and family when seeking their support.

Thanks again for your support

Math: Alas, we have left Crazy Bizarro Fraction World, but do not despair! It was time to say goodbye and move on. We will work on Personal Finance and Measurement this week. Personal Finance is one of those strange math units where there is no math, only memorization of big ol' abstract terms like budget and human capital. Luckily, our wonderful Mrs. Shelby and Ms. McFarling, Social Studies teachers extraordinaire, have taught these concepts already. Most of the week will be spent on measurement. The 3rd grade TEKS include liquid capacity and weight. No conversions from one unit to another have to be made in third grade, hooray! And theeeennnn, everyone's favorite: Flashback Friday! We will spend another day practicing adding (and let's be honest, subtracting) 3 and 4 digit numbers. Happy mathing!

Language Arts: In reading we are going to continue STAAR prep. We will start the week off by learning dictionary skills (finding unknown words in a paper dictionary). We will finish the week by overviewing past STAAR practice passages and working on skills we have identified we need more work with based on our heat maps.

Science: We will be looking at plants and their role in the environment.  We will be exploring the parts of a plant and their functions, as well as, how plants can adapt to the changing environment.

Social Studies: In Social Studies, the learners will create a timeline for their historical figure.  They will also be creating an informational poster with all of their research to showcase their individual.

Math: Well, try not to be too sad, but our Crazy Bizarro Fraction unit is coming to a close this week. We will be reviewing all things fractions, including but not limited to: representing fractions on a number line, on fraction circles, and on fraction rectangles. We will review fractions in a set, unit fractions, decomposing fractions, and composing fractions. We are going to rediscover the magic of equivalent fractions. And finally, everyone's favorite (read: Butterfly Method), comparing fractions with the same denominator and comparing fractions with the same numerator. ALL FRACTIONS, ALL THE TIME!!

Math Club (aka optional math homework) will get started this week, so be on the lookout for that email. Your child should be bringing home a completed math paper each Friday called First 5 Minutes, so feel free to ask them about that on Fridays.

Language Arts: In reading we are going to be going over our practice reading STAAR. We will read the passages together as a class and work on answering the questions. We will focus on the most challenging questions and how they are worded.

Science: We will look at environmental changes; what causes it to happen and what is the result after.  We will take a closer look at specifically coral bleaching and deforestation.

Social Studies: In Social Studies, the learners will continue working on their research project for their historical figure.  They will be looking into their individuals family, what they are most known for, and ways they have impacted their community.

Math: Fractions! This week is full of fraction fabulousness! We will review our fraction tricks - The Butterfly Method and Whatever You Do to the Top, You Do to the Bottom - and we will compare fractions with the same numerator and different denominators. We are starting a Math Club - there will be more information coming about that through an email - and we will continue with our STAAR questions.

Language Arts: In reading we are going to kick off STAAR prep! We will help the learners become oriented with the STAAR testing app and discuss test taking strategies.
In Writing, we will be focusing on identifying prepositions.  We will also work on building up our writing stamina by aiming to write for 15-20 minutes.

Science: In science, we will begin discussing food chains.  We will explore how a food chain shows the flow of energy within an ecosystem, how changes in a food chain affect the ecosystem and that producers and consumers describe different roles within a food chain.

Social Studies: In Social Studies, the learners will begin a research project on a historical figure.  They will dive into learning about this individual and how they influenced and shaped their community.

Math: You thought last week's math was awesome? Well, get ready, because this week is going to fraction-fabulous! We're continuing to work with equivalent fractions and starting to compare fractions. This week we'll work on comparing fractions with the same denominator. When learning about comparing these types of fractions, we will use fraction strips and models, but don't you worry! We will definitely continue to practice the Butterfly Method, which really amazed all the children: It. Works. Every. Time. If your child is a virtual learner and didn't get paper copies of the fraction strips or equivalency chart, please let your child's teacher know. We are happy to print them and have you come up to school to pick them up.

Language Arts: In Reading the leaners will continue working in their reading club groups and discuss inferencing. In writing, we will discuss the 5 things that a sentence must have/be in order to be complete: Subject, Predicate, must make sense, capital letters and punctuation.

Science: In science, the leaners will be exploring different habitats.  They will focus on 2 that they want to learn more about.  They will explore the plants and animals within those habitats and will then compare and contrast their habitats.

Social Studies: In Social Studies this week we will be learning about Cyrus McCormick and his invention of the mechanical reaper.  The learners will explore how his invention affected the lives of farm workers.
