October 16th - 20th

Thank you for taking the time to read our third grade blog. Make sure you are checking it weekly for calendar updates, what we are learning,  a glimpse at our week in pictures!

What are we learning?

Math
In math, learners will apply their knowledge of addition and subtraction to combine increments of time, as well as find the value of a collection of coins and bills.  Learners will use a problem-solving model to solve one and two-step addition and subtraction problems that involve time and money.

HomefunReflex math 3 times a week for 15 minutes

Language Arts
In reading, learners will be exploring how figurative language impacts meaning. In writing, learners will begin to add detail (vivid vocabulary, adjectives and adverbs) by focusing on small moments. Learners will take a spelling pretest and receive their new spelling lists. The next spelling test will be Friday, October 27th.

Homefun: Practice spelling words; Spelling Test on Friday, October 27th. Continue to work on the 30 Book Challenge.

Science
In science, careers and changes in position will be our focus this week: Learners will build and/or explore with tools such as robots, WeDo and Lego Simple Machines. Nate Ball is our first Scientist of study in our yearbook journal this year. The scientist yearbook purpose is to connect learners with current scientists in the field today. Tardies

Please make sure that you are getting your children to school by or before 7:40. Leaners that aren't in the classroom by 7:40 are sent to the office and counted tardy. Our learning day starts at 7:40 and we want to make sure that all of our learners are present and on time! Thank you for your help!! Your child can get to school as early as 7:20 to spend time in the gym with their peers.
