Please help make sure that your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

Heart Hustle

Smart Watches
We have noticed that more and more of our students have begun wearing smartwatches to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.
Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies to their iPads.) This includes parents. Additionally, smartwatches are only to be used to tell time during the day. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to contact your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.
We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate (or use any additional feature beyond telling time), they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

Yearbooks for Sale

Our yearbook sale is now open! Each year we have a Town Center Yearbook that highlights photos from every class, school events, and staff. It is a great item to have to look back on memories from the year, and we even have a yearbook signing party in May. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, please see the graphic below for thee different purchasing options. As a reminder, the TCE Yearbook cost WAS NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass. If you would like a yearbook for your child(ren), you will need to purchase using the website link below.

Our yearbook committee would also love your help in submitting photos for the yearbook. As you attend campus events, if you have any photos you would like to share, see below for information on uploading them to our committee.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

ELA - As we approach the climax of Because of Winn Dixie, our readers will practice the skill of summarizing while also continuing to understand the differences between topics, events and themes!

We have been learning about how feedback improves the writing process and will continue to evaluate our responses to reading using checklists.  Ask your learner to tell you about a goal they have to improve the quality of their work!

Social Studies - It’s time to  explore financial literacy and critical thinking skills as we embark on our Economics unit! Economics may seem like a complex subject for third graders, but with the right approach, it becomes an engaging and enlightening adventure. Through interactive activities, role-playing scenarios, and hands-on exploration, we'll delve into the basics of money, trade, and the interconnectedness of goods and services in our everyday lives.

Math - The big show is upon us, friends, and the name of that show is Fractions! We have some big big concepts to learn down here in B Hall, and we are ready to take the world by storm. I like to think about fractions as little tiny numbers who live on the number line in between 0 and 1, and guess what? They’re NOT just like us! They’re not whole numbers, so the rules are different. For example, in the whole number world, 8 is greater than 2, but by the end of the unit, they’ll understand that when the denominator (new 3rd grade vocab word) is greater, it means the size of the piece is smaller. You read that right, folks, by the end of the unit, your darlings will be comparing fractions and talking about equivalent fractions. (Another way fractions are not like us: 2 fractions that look completely different can actually represent the same amount). These are wild times in Crazy Bizarro Fraction World! This week, we’ll ease into the madness by reviewing what they learned in second grade and making sure they really understand what the numerator (new 3rd grade vocab word) and denominator represent. I can’t wait to get started!

Science - Are you all tired of hearing the planet song yet??  Well sorry to say, it’s here to stay…at least for the next week or 2 :)  Over the next 2 weeks we will be digging deeper into the planets by doing a research project.  Look out for the final product at Open House!
