  • Yearbook Pictures and Yearbooks are FOR SALE! - TCE PTO is looking for your help in gathering photos for the Town Center Yearbook! We set up an easy process for you to share your images from different campus or classroom events. We would love for all families to contribute their images so we can make sure we have equal representation from all grade levels and classrooms! Please use the following step-by-step directions document or video to create a Lifetouch account and begin uploading your images now. Thank you!

  • Family Lunch Fridays - Our campus is open each Friday for lunch visitors! When you arrive you will sign in at the front office and receive a visitor badge that must be worn at all times. You will need a photo ID (license or passport). You will be able to eat lunch with your child at the designated tables for lunch visitors. You may only eat with your child. No other learners may be invited to eat with you. You may purchase lunch in the cafeteria or bring a lunch with you. Parents will be dismissed from the cafeteria. You will need to go back through the front office to sign out at the end of lunchtime. Please see Ms. Martin's Principal Newsletter for details on who may eat with your child and a form to fill out for non-parent lunch visitorsNo lunch visitors on early release days.

  • Background Checks - If you have not had a chance to fill out a background check please fill one out for yourself or update last year's! Click here to register as a new volunteer or confirm your information from last year. This must be completed every school year for you to volunteer at the school. The district will send you an email when your background check has cleared. Any opportunities for volunteering at the school, including holiday parties, will require a cleared background check. Once completed it lasts for the remainder of the school year.  When you create your account, make sure to click on the add new application button. (see picture below)

Math

Composite area. Buckle up, folks. I’m not gonna lie, this is one of the most challenging things we do in math all year. Scared? Nervous? Don’t be! We’ve got 5 steps that will get you (I mean your child) the right answer every time.

*A composite figure is 2 or more shapes put together. For 3rd graders, it’s a rectangle and another rectangle or a rectangle and a square:

Step 1: Partition (split) into 2 shapes - black line

Step 2: Label the shapes A and B.

Step 3: Find the area of A: 9 x 2 = 18 sq ft

Step 4: Find the area of B: 4 x 4 = 16 sq ft

Step 5: Add the areas: 18 + 16 = 34 sq ft - this is the answer.

**The most common mistake is not choosing the correct numbers to multiply, for instance, for A, multiplying 2 x 5 instead of 9 x 2.

***It’s okay to partition vertically instead of horizontally; you’ll still get the correct answer.

Science

This week we will continue with our exploration of the sun, Earth and moon.  We will be working with our fabulous librarian and DLC on a project that they have put together.  They will be using Spheros to demonstrate their knowledge of how the sun and Earth work together and what this causes for us (night, day, season, etc.)

Reading/Writing

We will share our Persuasive Essays in a celebration this week! Woohoo! Then we will move from reading poetry to writing it!  We look forward to sharing this work with you at open house.  In reading we will begin a unit in the genre of MYSTERY as we dive into a new novel…so many questions to ask and so many problems to solve!

Social Studies

This week we will explore supply and demand. We will experiment with how they impact each other through a variety of games and simulations. We will also continue with the Game of Life simulation.
