Math

In math, we are hopping on the train that will take us even further into the Land of Place Value so that we can learn about comparing and ordering numbers up to 120,000! They have learned these skills in 2nd, just not with numbers in the hundred thousands. With comparing, we will use the tried and true “the alligator wants to eat the greater number” to help us learn which sign to use, the greater than (>) sign or the less than (<) sign. Ordering numbers is a bit more challenging than comparing, so we will practice being able to find them on the number line to help us. These skills will further their numeracy, which is the foundation of math - it’s how they understand the value of numbers. All of this will prepare us for the new 3rd grade skill of rounding. It’s an exciting time to be a mathematician as a TCE 3rd grader!

Science

In Science,  it’s all about EXPLORATION this week.  We will take a closer look at measuring distance and length, buoyancy (sink or float), temperature and volume.  We will also discuss the different tools used to measure them.

Reading/Writing

In writing we will compose and organize a personal narrative piece, including an introduction and conclusion.

We will begin our spelling/phonics practice that builds on current knowledge of spelling patterns.

In reading, we will practice selecting appropriate and challenging texts, we will set goals for our reading growth and practice writing about what we read.

We will also monitor and adjust comprehension by applying strategies to uncover word meaning.

Social Studies

This week we will review citizenship in the digital world as we focus on our responsibilities in the digital world.  We will also uncover the why behind community formation as we identify the reasons communities form.
