What are we learning?

Math
In math, learners will begin representing numbers (up to 100,000) in multiple ways and compare and order them based on their place value. Learners will explain the relationship in the base-ten system, and represent this relationship using expanded notation. We will start back in the thousands place and work our way up to the hundred thousands. We will practice writing numbers in standard form, expanded form, word form, and drawing them using base 10 blocks.

Language Arts
In reading, we will be working on continuing to set up our Readers' Workshop and establish routines. We will also begin our Reading beginning of the year assessments.
In writing, we will continue to work on establishing our norms for Writer's Workshop and work on our stamina for independent writing.

Science
In science, learners will investigate matter and it's physical properties. They will describe and classify matter, understand that heating and cooling can change the properties of matter, as well as how solids, liquids, and gases differ.

Social Studies
In social studies, learners will discuss the reasons that people form communities and learn what needs a community has.
