Cowboys Rise for the Texas Coast

In partnership with Coppell High School, our TCE Student Organization will be selling t-shirts to raise money for people who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. The t-shirt cost will be $10. 100% of the shirt cost will go to help the needs of those on the Texas gulf coast. We would love for everyone to support this cause as our community unites to help our neighbors to the south! We encourage parents, children, and other family members to get shirts! Please return order forms and money (cash or check made out to our Town Center PTO) to your child's homeroom teacher by Wednesday, September 13th.
(see shirt design above)
***Blue order forms came home in your child's binder on Friday, September 1st***

CISD Background Check

If you are planning on attending class parties, volunteering on campus or through class field trips/field day please take a moment and fill out the CISD Background Check form. This is good for the entire 2017-2018 at all CISD campus. It is imperative, for the safety of your children, that this is filled out prior to any volunteering this year. Take a few moments and fill out now so that you will be cleared for the school year!

Our TCE fifth graders are collecting gently used books for Hurricane Harvey relief. Books are due by September 8th. These books may be dropped off at any of the collection boxes at the end of each hallway. Our fifth grader hope to be a blessing to schools, libraries, and kids who's books have been destroyed during Hurricane Harvey. We love to read here at TCE and hope to get books into the hand of kids affected by the hurricane.

What are we learning?

Math
In math, learners will continue representing numbers (up to 100,000) in multiple ways and compare them based on their place value. Learners will explain the relationship in the base-ten system, and represent this relationship using expanded notation.

Homefun: Math homefun and reflex math will being mid-September. Be on the lookout for updates!

Language Arts
In reading, learners will begin Reading Workshop. They will review how to select a "good fit" book and will continue to work on building reading stamina. Each learner has the opportunity to check out books from our Town Center Library. These books are needed each day for class for independent reading and conferences with the teacher. Please help your child to remember their books each day for class.

In writing, learners will begin Grammar Talks with a focus on nouns and continue setting a foundation in Writing Workshop.

Homefun: 30 Book Challenge log will be coming home on Tuesday. This will be a year-long challenge, and many will read more than 30 books. Please encourage your child to read a wide variety of books to deepen their knowledge base and reading experience.

Science
In science, learners will continue to investigate mixtures and their physical properties. They will describe and classify matter, understand that heating and cooling can change the properties of matter, as well as how solids, liquids, and gases differ.

Social Studies
In social studies, learners will review the reasons people form communities and we will begin to discuss what culture is and how it impacts our community.
