Third grade will have special visitors from 8:30-9:30.  We hope to see you and/or a special friend of your child's on September 22nd!

Tardies

Please make sure that you are getting your children to school by or before 7:40. Leaners that aren't in the classroom by 7:40 are sent to the office and counted tardy. Our learning day starts at 7:40 and we want to make sure that all of our learners are present and on time! Thank you for your help!! Your child can get to school as early as 7:20 to spend time in the gym with their peers.

Book Fair

Share your talents and join us in creating memories for our learners! Our TCE Book Fair is right around the corner and we're looking for volunteers to make it a huge success. Please sign up at: tinyurl.com/TCEBF17

Your child can shop the book fair before and after school when accompanied by a parent, during recess (if they brought money from home) and during special friends day!

What are we learning?

Math
In math, learners will begin to build on their understanding of place value as they invent strategies and/or use mental math and the properties of operations to construct methods for adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. Learners will then eventually relate these strategies to the standard algorithm.

HomefunReflex math will begin this upcoming week. Be on the lookout for a paper coming home with login information and directions on creating a parent account!

Language Arts
In reading, learners will focus on making connections using books written by Patricia Polacco. They will share connections that they have with the book to their own lives, other books, and the world around them during classroom discussions and journal reflections.

In writing, learners will continue with the writing process and begin drafting their first narrative of the year. We will also review verbs during our Grammer Talks Spelling will being this week and word lists will be coming home on Tuesday Our first spelling test will be on Friday, September 29th.

Homefun: Continue to work on the 30 Book Challenge.

Science
In science this week, leaners will understand that mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object. Learners will conduct an experiment to learn that when water changes from one state to another, the number of molecules of water does not change; therefore the amount of matter or mass does not change.

Social Studies
In social studies, learners will finish their presentation on their country's culture. They will present them to the class and begin comparing/contrasting the different cultures around the world.
