Red Ribbon Week - October 25th-29th

We celebrate National Red Ribbon Week in honor of Enrique Camarena, a fallen DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Agent, who risked his own life in the battle against illegal drugs. The Red Ribbon is a symbol used to help us remember to make healthy choices for our bodies and to "say NO to drugs!" We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 25th-29th with the national slogan Drug Free Looks Like Me

Math

Next week will see us continue solving multiplication word problems, but we will add the MULTISTEP word problem! For instance: James had 4 bags of basketballs. Each bag had 2 basketballs, then he bought 5 more basketballs. How many does he have now?

We will also begin learning how to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit. We will start by using the distributive property and area models, with the standard algorithm coming the week after. Your third grader is amazing and can handle these big math skills! *We will use Reflex to measure whether or not your child has mastered his or her multiplication facts to 10. We use Reflex at school, but feel free to have your kiddo practice it at home as well. This standard is reported out on the next report card in December.

Science

Next week we will explore the forces of gravity and magnetism and how they act on objects.

May the force be with you...still!

Reading/Writing

In reading, we will be overviewing the main idea and how to teach what we learned in our nonfiction text to others. We will also begin to explore fact versus opinion in nonfiction writing. In writing, we will wrap up our narrative stories and introduce our new expository writing unit.

Social Studies

In social studies, we will be continuing to explore levels of government. We will continue our learning of government by looking through various historical documents and discussing their importance to US government.
