February 12th - 16th

Welcome third grade families! Thank you for taking the time to read our third grade blog. Make sure you are checking it weekly for calendar updates, what we are learning, and a glimpse at our week in pictures!

What are we learning?

Math
In math, learners will begin classifying and sorting two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures and identifying two-dimension figures based on present or absence of specific attributes.

Homefun: Reflex Math TWO times a week for FIFTEEN minutes

Language Arts

In reading, learners will revisit biographies and autobiographies, and explain the similarities and differences between the two. They will also learn about 1st and 3rd person point of view. In writing, learners will interview a classmate, and there will also be a spelling pretest on Monday.

Homefun: Study for weekly spelling test, Razkids 2 times a week for 15 minutes, and the passage "Interview Great-Grandma Jones" (due Friday, February 16th).

Click here for parent letter and digital copy of Interviewing Great-Grandma Jones.

Science
Let the 2018 Winter Olympics begin!! We will be learning about several different winter sports, building games, and competing in our Winter STEM Games! This excellent engaging activity will be a big hit! Please continue to send those toilet paper and paper towel rolls in.

These activities will help learners develop critical thinking and engineering skills. Learners will plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity and game, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't work. Let the games begin!

Social Studies
In social studies, learners will learn how to describe map elements, discuss different regions of the U.S. and how humans adapt to their physical environment.
