ANNOUNCEMENTS

From P.E.:
Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart is Coming to our school! You can get a “jump start” by fundraising online at www.heart.org/jump or www.heart.org/hoops.

From 3rd Grade:

Please ask your child if he or she needs headphones at school! It makes using technology a little easier when everyone can hear. 😊

Valentine's Day is coming! The class parties will be on Tuesday, February 14. We will open valentines, so please send in a decorated container (either a paper sack or a shoe box) to hold all your child's cards. Please remember that classrooms are nut free (including products made in facilities that also process nut products) when sending in valentines/treats; also, please make sure there is a card for every learner in your child's class and that the valentines are already filled out before school starts that morning.

Cafeteria expectations: It is a school-wide expectation that when the lights are off, our voices are off. Please help us with following these when you are eating with your child in the cafeteria

Background Check: Please take a minute to fill out a background check. It only takes a few minutes and the link is below. You will need to have completed a background check to volunteer at school and attend special events and field trips. http://www.coppellisd.com/Page/22

Mark your calendars! Our 3rd grade field trip to the Frisco Sci-Tech Discovery Center will be April 5th. Field Trip information should be coming home in your child's binder.

PEEK AT OUR WEEK

Math: This week our learners will be digging (literally!) into area and perimeter. We will be using our Town Center garden to help us better understand are and perimeter. We will start exploring concepts like finding the area of composite figures or find the perimeter of polygons.

Science: We will be continuing our discussion of the relationship between the sun, the moon, and the Earth. To continue our learning of constructing models, we will head outside to make a model of the distance from the Earth to the sun. Students will be in the field, walking out the distance between the sun and the Earth; making models to scale is a big “step” for third graders! Students will also learn the order of the planets and begin to take regular measurements of the temperature outside.

Social Studies: Our learners are studying about individuals who have made a difference in their community by completing a biography research project.

Reading: learners will begin studying myths, legends, fables, and folktales. We will also have a new OTW that is due Friday. It will be slightly different this week because it is not a poem.

Writing: In writing, we will integrate with reading by writing poetry. They are currently creating poetry portfolios with several different types of poems that they have written!

HOMEWORK
Math: Please remember that we have started a new homework routine. Your child should be coming home with a new homework page that will be due on Friday, February 3rd. Reflex Math still needs to be done 3 times a week. If you would still like to complete workbook pages, those pages for this week are 525-530.

Reading: We will continue our new Of The Week (OTW) homework. Learners will have one activity each night, then a short comprehension quiz on Friday.

Spelling: There is no more Spelling Choice Board homework. Students are responsible for learning their words and will take the next post test Friday, February 10, but the choice board is not part of the homework.
