3rd Grade FIELD TRIP
We will be going to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science on Friday, May 2nd for our third-grade field trip. The learners will be exploring various exhibits, participate in hands-on learning and enjoy the Suiting up for Space program for an experience aligning with our third grade TEKS and learning objectives following our state standardized testing.
We will be leaving school around 8:30 AM and will return around 2:00 PM. Every learner will need to bring a sack lunch that can be thrown away. Sack lunches will also be available from the cafeteria if you choose.
The cost of the field trip per child is $15. The attached permission slip needs to be signed and returned with cash or check (made out to Coppell ISD) by Friday, March 14th. All parts of the permission slip need to be filled out in order for your child to participate in our field trip.
CHAPERONES NEEDED! If you would like to chaperone, please complete the attached Chaperone Interest page and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher ASAP so that we can make sure we confirm your background check or run one if needed. The cost of a chaperone’s admission to the Museum is $15. The money is due by Friday, March 14th. You will need to make sure you arrange for your own transportation to the Museum. You can meet us at TCE and carpool with other parents and follow the buses. We ask that if you have younger children that you please make arrangements for them while you are at the museum as they won’t be able to attend. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher!
Please return the signed permission slip and $15 in the attached envelope. If you would like to chaperone, please include the additional $15.

Town Center has an exciting resource for families! We now have an entire resource library focused on Social and Emotional skill development. Themes are divided into 5 categories: Understanding Myself, Managing Myself, Respecting Others, Building Relationships, and Making Decisions.
View the titles here: TCE's Family Literacy Library Titles. Then, select the topic that interests you and complete this form to Request a Family Book Bag. Corresponding conversation starters to help facilitate discussions at home will also be included in the book bag. Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)
Please help ensure your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

We are going to practice, practice, practice our extended constructed responses in writing! By the end of the week your kiddo will be dreaming of ECr’s and handmade graphic organizers!
There are only 3 instructional weeks left ‘til the Reading STAAR (which is really a reading and comprehension and editing and revising and writing test!!!) PHEW.
We will be in review mode! We will be reviewing skills and practicing question types. We will also be talking strategy. Homework for the next three weeks will be previous STAAR questions and passages!
Social Studies - This week we will continue our Economics Unit but will focus on specific vocabulary required for Financial Literacy!
Math - Our fraction knowledge is rolling along! Next on the list is comparing fractions with like denominators and fractions with like numerators. The comparing that doesn’t happen in 3rd grade is between fractions that don’t look anything alike, for instance ⅔ > ⅙. Comparing fractions that have the same denominator is easy; we just look at the numerator and compare them as we would with any whole number. When we compare fractions with numerators that are the same, we have to think about the size of the piece, so we look to the denominator for guidance: the “larger” the number, the smaller the piece. This is a crucial piece of the fraction puzzle, and I can all but guarantee that the STAAR test will ask at least 2 questions about comparing fractions - most likely, 1 of the questions will ask them to compare and then they’ll have to choose which explanation supports their answer. I will teach them the Butterfly Method, which is a tried and true, magical way to compare fractions and continues to amaze 3rd graders around the world - they even taught it back in 1987 when I was a kiddo. We will end the week by talking about equivalent fractions. While we will discuss and explore many examples of equivalent fractions, they definitely need to know which fractions are equal to ½ with fluency. Can you even with how amazing your 3rd grader is?!
Science - In Science we are beginning our final unit…Organisms in Ecosystems! We will start by exploring how animals survive in their environments. We will discuss the interdependence of plants, animals and their environments.
