Kona Ice Truck
Next Friday, March 7th, your child will have the option to purchase a Kona Ice if they would like to.  They can bring in money the day of, or you can send it in earlier in the week!  We will collect the money and make sure that if any change is needed they get it back by the end of Friday.

3rd Grade FIELD TRIP

We will be going to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science on Friday, May 2nd for our third-grade field trip. The learners will be exploring various exhibits, participate in hands-on learning and enjoy the Suiting up for Space program for an experience aligning with our third grade TEKS and learning objectives following our state standardized testing.
We will be leaving school around 8:30 AM and will return around 2:00 PM. Every learner will need to bring a sack lunch that can be thrown away. Sack lunches will also be available from the cafeteria if you choose.
The cost of the field trip per child is $15.  The attached permission slip needs to be signed and returned with cash or check (made out to Coppell ISD) by Friday, March 14th. All parts of the permission slip need to be filled out in order for your child to participate in our field trip.
CHAPERONES NEEDED! If you would like to chaperone, please complete the attached Chaperone Interest page and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher ASAP so that we can make sure we confirm your background check or run one if needed. The cost of a chaperone’s admission to the Museum is $15. The money is due by Friday, March 14th. You will need to make sure you arrange for your own transportation to the Museum.  You can meet us at TCE and carpool with other parents and follow the buses.  We ask that if you have younger children that you please make arrangements for them while you are at the museum as they won’t be able to attend.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher!
Please return the signed permission slip and $15 in the attached envelope. If you would like to chaperone, please include the additional $15.

Social Emotional Literacy Library

Town Center's Family Social Emotional Literacy Library

Town Center has an exciting resource for families! We now have an entire resource library focused on Social and Emotional skill development. Themes are divided into 5 categories: Understanding Myself, Managing Myself, Respecting Others, Building Relationships, and Making Decisions.

View the titles here: TCE's Family Literacy Library Titles. Then, select the topic that interests you and complete this form to Request a Family Book Bag. Corresponding conversation starters to help facilitate discussions at home will also be included in the book bag. Books and discussion questions may be kept for two weeks and then returned to Kelly Matlock, TCE's counselor. Please email kmatlock@coppellisd.com with any questions.

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Please click on the link below to complete it.

TCE Principal Newsletter

Each week Ms. Martin sends out her Town Center Principal Newsletter. Please make sure to check out all the important campus-wide announcements in the Principal Newsletter.

ELA -

In Writing we are focusing on how to create an Extended Constructed Response to an informational text.  We will be working on how to state our thesis, cite evidence, explain that evidence, and write a conclusion.  The kids will also work on how to create their own graphic organizer from a blank sheet of paper to help them with their planning.

In Grammar we are focusing on prefixes and their meanings.

This week in reading we will have a crash course in DRAMA! Students will read them and understand that plays or scripts are written differently. We will learn about the dialogue, stage directions and more. We will also be using the genre to explore the author’s intentions, character analysis and how setting impacts the plot.

Social Studies - This week we will continue our Economics Unit but will focus on how supply and demand affect the price of a good or service. I’ve included the high priority learning standard as well as the supporting standards for the area of focus this week..

HPLS 3.6A explain how supply and demand affect the price of a good or service

Supporting Standards:

  • 3.6B define and identify examples of scarcity

  • 3.6C explain how the cost of production and selling price affect profits

3.6D identify individuals, past and present, such as Henry Ford and Sam Walton who have started new businesses

Math - Right now, this is what you came for: FRACTIONS. The big show has arrived and I couldn’t be more excited. Your child comes to third grade with pretty basic fraction knowledge: understanding fourths, halves, and eighths, that fractions represent parts of a whole, and that fractions also represent the size of the piece of the whole. Your kiddo will end up knowing how to compare fractions and recognize equivalent fractions. It’s amazing, really. I LOVE this unit and can’t wait to get into it. #thingsmathteacherssay

To start, we will learn about what numerators and denominators represent, how fractions are parts of a whole and how they’re little bitty numbers that exist on the number line between 0 and 1. There’s a whole world out there, folks, and it’s called Bizarro Fraction World. In this place, rules for numbers are a little different, so stay tuned ‘til the next episode. These are the Days of Our Lives in Crazy Bizarro Fraction World…

Science - Next week in our Rapid Land Changes journey we will explore the causes and effects of Earthquakes and Tsunamis.  As we explore each one we are collecting notes that will be used in a final product for you to see at Open House!
