Town Center's Family Social Emotional Literacy Library
Town Center has an exciting resource for families! We now have an entire resource library focused on Social and Emotional skill development. Themes are divided into 5 categories: Understanding Myself, Managing Myself, Respecting Others, Building Relationships, and Making Decisions.
View the titles here: TCE's Family Literacy Library Titles. Then, select the topic that interests you and complete this form to Request a Family Book Bag. Corresponding conversation starters to help facilitate discussions at home will also be included in the book bag. Books and discussion questions may be kept for two weeks and then returned to Kelly Matlock, TCE's counselor. Please email kmatlock@coppellisd.com with any questions.
STEAM Career Dress Up Day
Background Checks
We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Please click on the link below to complete it.

In reading and writing we will begin our poetry unit! We will study poetic elements including terms like stanza, line, line break, rhyme, and rhyme scheme. We will also use poetry to deepen our understanding of broader literary elements like theme and figurative language, specifically similes, metaphors, and hyperbole. They will have the opportunity to read rich examples and create their own! Our librarian also introduced a national poetry writing competition to your third grader! Last year we had THREE Town Center 3rd graders whose poems were selected for this national anthology!!
Step 1: Partition (split) into 2 shapes (black line)
Step 2: Label the shapes A and B.
Step 3: Find the area of A: 9 x 2 = 18 sq ft
Step 4: Find the area of B: 4 x 4 = 16 sq ft
Step 5: Add the areas: 18 + 16 = 34 sq ft - this is the answer.
In addition to practicing area calculations, the homework this week will focus on subtracting 3 digit numbers with regrouping. Regrouping is the #newmath word for “borrowing”. A lot of children have mastered regrouping across 3 digits, which is new for 3rd graders, but some aren’t quite sure how the top number changes when it needs to be regrouped. Please refer to the tutorial that is going home with the homework in case you aren’t quite sure how to help or what to say. #igotyou
Finally, I encourage you to work on this with your kiddo so you’ll know exactly where they are in their regrouping journey. And please make sure no calculators are being used!
