Metrocrest Services
Metrocrest Services provides two seasonal support options for families:
  • The Thanksgiving Food program provides holiday favorites such as turkey, dressing, and food to help you and your family during the Thanksgiving holiday break.
  • The Holiday program makes the holiday season a little brighter by allowing parents to go to our holiday store and choose unwrapped toys for their children. In addition, participants can pick up non-perishable food and winter coats for the family.

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Please click on the link below to complete it.

Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)

Please help ensure your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

December 6th Newsletter!

ELA -

In Writing the next 2 weeks we will put a fun, festive spin on argumentative writing! We will be exploring some fun Would You Rather questions and they will pick a side and argue their stance.

We will continue character studies and working on test taking as a genre. You can talk with your child about their “good fit” fiction chapter book they are reading. We are working on reading stamina and challenging ourselves with quality literature!

Social Studies - Our social studies journey will take us through humans and their environment. We will study ways the earth changes on its own, and we will also study ways humans change the earth!

Math - That’s a wrap on division and multiplication! We will have our unit test on Tuesday, December 10. This test will include multiplication and division representations, 2 by 1 digit multiplication, multiplication and division word problems, using the inverse operation to find the answer (if you know that 2x3=6, you also know that 6➗3=2), and determining if a number is even or odd. An optional review page was sent home on December 5 in case you want to review that with your child; please let Mrs. Naughton know if you have any questions. Please continue to help your kiddo memorize those multiplication and division facts to 10 - remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint!! After the test next week, we will learn about bar graphs, pictographs, and dot plots. Data analysis is a continuous unit that we go back to throughout 3rd grade; next week will be our first time this year to discuss these skills. Dot plots are new for 3rd grade; they’ve been working on pictographs and bar graphs for a few grades already. I find that children can analyze the graphs pretty easily; the issue is understanding the specific question that’s being asked and then using that data from the graph and doing math with it to answer that question correctly.  For instance, they can read a graph and see that 30 kids like chocolate ice cream and 17 kids like vanilla, but do they know what to do when the question asks how many more kids like chocolate than vanilla (30-17=13)? As usual, it all goes back to word problems, so we practice, practice, practice to take away the fear and strengthen our math reasoning and number sense. Keep calm and solve the word problem, ya know?

Science - Next week we are coming back down to Earth.  We will explore soil and how it is formed; through weathering and decomposition.
