Congratulations to our winners this week!

Lions Club
Each year the Lion's Club of Coppell provides holiday baskets and toys to families in the Coppell ISD attendance area. Last year the Lion's Club provided a special Christmas for over 100 families for children who might otherwise have gone without. The food baskets and toys are delivered by members of the Lion's Club, and the identity of the recipients is kept confidential. If your family would benefit from a holiday basket and toys from the Lion's Club, please complete THIS FORM and return it to TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock, by Friday, December 6th. Email kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you would like a paper copy sent home.

Metrocrest Services
Metrocrest Services provides two seasonal support options for families:
  • The Thanksgiving Food program provides holiday favorites such as turkey, dressing, and food to help you and your family during the Thanksgiving holiday break.
  • The Holiday program makes the holiday season a little brighter by allowing parents to go to our holiday store and choose unwrapped toys for their children. In addition, participants can pick up non-perishable food and winter coats for the family.
To register, complete an application HERE.

Attendance

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Please click on the link below to complete it.

Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)

Please help ensure your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

TCE Principal Newsletter

Each week Ms. Martin sends out her Town Center Principal Newsletter. Please make sure to check out all the important campus-wide announcements in the Principal Newsletter.

November 11th Newsletter!

ELA -

In Writing we will continue working on our Argumentative writing.  We will work with different prompts but focus on the same format: State your claim (opinion), cite your evidence to back your claim, explain how that evidence supports your claim, conclusion to restate your claim.

We will continue character studies and working on test taking as a genre. You can talk with your child about their “good fit” fiction chapter book they are reading. We are working on reading stamina and challenging ourselves with quality literature!

Social Studies - Our social studies journey will take us through humans and their environment. We will study ways the earth changes on its own, and we will also study ways humans change the earth!

Math - We are working on strengthening our multiplication and division knowledge so that we are ready for the test on Tuesday, December 10. This test will cover even and odd numbers, how multiplication and division are related (fact families), multiplication and division word problems, representing multiplication and division, and 2 by 1 digit multiplication. Please continue to have your child learn his or her facts to 10 - it truly sets them up for math success for the rest of their life, and that is not an exaggeration. So many concepts in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade math will be easier if those facts are down cold. (Long division and finding the greatest common factor, I’m lookin’ at you.) We work on memorizing the facts, but the truth is that your child needs your help to learn these facts. The songs are a great way to get to the answers quickly, but nothing beats really learning them. Reflex milestones are handed out each week, and we do it in school for about 10-15 minutes per day, but if you would like your child to practice Reflex at home, that’s okay too. Please let me know if you need a set of good ol’ fashioned flashcards to help!

*Please send in your empty, clean ½ gallon cardboard containers and your empty cereal boxes.

**Please let me know if you’re available to come in to help construct the function machines to be ready that first day back from the winter holiday in January.

Science - This past week in Science we focused on learning the order of the planet from the Sun.  We will explore each planet more deeply by doing research on each planet throughout the week.
