Lions Club
Each year the Lion's Club of Coppell provides holiday baskets and toys to families in the Coppell ISD attendance area. Last year the Lion's Club provided a special Christmas for over 100 families for children who might otherwise have gone without. The food baskets and toys are delivered by members of the Lion's Club, and the identity of the recipients is kept confidential. If your family would benefit from a holiday basket and toys from the Lion's Club, please complete THIS FORM and return it to TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock, by Friday, December 6th. Metrocrest Services provides two seasonal support options for families:
- The Thanksgiving Food program provides holiday favorites such as turkey, dressing, and food to help you and your family during the Thanksgiving holiday break.
- The Holiday program makes the holiday season a little brighter by allowing parents to go to our holiday store and choose unwrapped toys for their children. In addition, participants can pick up non-perishable food and winter coats for the family.

Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)
Please help ensure your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

November 11th Newsletter!
In writing this week we will continue to work on persuasive/opinion writing. They will state their claim and learn to back it by supporting it with text evidence and an explanation.
In grammar, we will look at Superlatives and Comparatives and when to appropriately use them.
Comparative: when you have 2 nouns.
Joe is taller than Sarah.
Superlative: when you have 3 or more nouns.
James is the oldest in his class.
In reading this week we are going to be working responding to reading using text evidence and explanations. This skill can be supported at home through asking and answering questions. You can ask questions at an time - After reading together, watching shows or movies, cooking, etc.
Here are some examples:
“Which food would be the best for your body? Use evidence and explain why.”
“Which character changed the most? Use evidence to explain how they changed.”
Social Studies - In social studies we will wrap up our map exploration and continue to learn about how humans interact with their environment. We will study some basic landforms, climate, and population.
Math - Division will not divide us! The thinking pattern (a way to think about operations in math) for division is TATA, which stands for total amount taken apart. We are moving on to the final lessons in our multiplication and division unit, and that means we will spend all week learning about division: how we can use multiplication to find division answers, how we can represent division, and how to tell if a number is odd or even. Right now, I have the multiplication and division post test scheduled for Thursday, December 12, but there will be more information about that as the date gets closer.
Please, please, please help your child learn his or her multiplication and division facts to 10!! Parents ask me all the time what they need to work on at home, and this. Is. IT! In years past, I have had children tell me about all the advanced math they’re learning outside of school, but they still don’t know their facts. If you are looking for a way to help them learn their facts but aren’t sure where to start, please reach out to me at enaughton@coppellisd.com. I am happy to help! (A great backup option to memorizing the facts is learning all the songs and chants really well. These are in Schoology → Math → Multiplication and Division → Fact Fluency Videos → Our Multiplication Songs and Chants.) Finally, I am still asking for empty, clean ½ gallon CARDBOARD containers for a math project. This project is a “Function Machine”, and it helps the children learn about number patterns and operations. Originally, I had this slated for the week before Winter Break, but now we’ll be working with these the week when we get back to school AFTER Winter Break. This means we need all the machines completed and ready to go for our return to school on January 7, 2025. Please send in these items any time between now and Winter Break, and if you are interested in coming up to school to help construct these “machines” (it’s easy) then let me know!
Science - In Science this week we are looking at all the planets in our solar system. They will work on memorizing the order of the planets from the sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Poor Pluto has been downgraded to a Dwarf Planet 🙁WARNING…song on repeat incoming! We will be watching a video and song of the planets that the kids LOVE!
