Color Run

3rd Grade Goal Chart

Mark your calendars for the Town Center Color Run!

October 14th 5:30-7:00 p.m. Town Center Elementary

This is our PTO's big fundraiser for the year, so please plan to join us. The fundraiser has begun and will run through Oct. 14th, ending with the Color Run!

Here's how the fundraiser will work:

  • All TCE students will be given a free Color Run shirt and be able to be a part of the run at no cost. Parents that want to participate in the run can register at www.tcepto.com for $20.00.
  • Each class has created a donation goal chart with donation amounts and the rewards the class gets when they reach those amounts. Be on the lookout for emails from your child's teacher about hitting class goals and earning rewards.
  • Donations can be made online at www.tcepto.com, or students can bring in cash or a check (payable to TCE PTO). Make sure the donations are marked with your student's name and teacher so that it's added to their class total. Send our donation link to family and friends that would be interested in donating.
Donations from this fundraiser will go to fund Field Day, buses for field trips, Teacher Appreciation Week, and classroom grants that provide materials and resources for our students to use.

Math

So we’ve sung Boys II Men and Tina Turner in the last 2 math blog posts, and this week we have…no one! Just me ladies and gentlemen, taking my solo turn at giving you the lowdown you always wanted (and some you didn’t, let’s be honest) about third grade math. We are still representing multiplication with arrays, number lines, and repeated addition, and then next Friday, October 14, we are going to talk about all the ways the word “group” can be in disguise. On that day, if you’d like, please have your child bring a simple disguise (like a wig, a pair of sunglasses, and/or a hat) so we can have a fun time being in disguise while learning about multiplication! We’re gonna ROCK, 3rd grade families!

Science

In Science we have discussed that energy is the ability to do work and it is EVERYWHERE! Next week we will continue our exploration of types of energy: sound, light, mechanical and thermal (heat).  They will finish out the week working in groups to complete a Forms of Energy Showcase.

Reading/Writing

After assessments on Friday, we realized we needed more time with narratives so this next paragraph might look familiar!!

Next week we will start our new units: “Reading to Learn” and “Writing to Teach”.  We will be doing all things nonfiction and informational. As this year is a big transition in reading and writing for students it will be something we would love your support on!  Please be in conversation with your kids about their favorite topics i.e. volcanoes, tornadoes, dinosaurs, crickets, gardening, classic rock music… Whatever their heart desires! We will be using information about their passions to write and teach in the style of informational essays.

Social Studies

We are looking at the cultural celebrations and traditions that are important in Hispanic cultures and communities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
