Math
Next up? It’s the crown jewel in the multiplication crown: the STAAAADARRRRDDD ALGORITHM! Oh yeah! Guys, we made it! We trudged through that “new math” (I’m looking at you, area models) and have arrived at the strategy we all know and love and grew up with and still use; and by that I mean go ahead and carry that 1, baby! We will practice the standard algorithm all week and solidify our dope rhyme: Bottom, Top, Bottom, Side: That is how we multiply! Math TIME (teaching in small groups versus whole group) has been going well, and we are looking forward to another fabulous math week in 3rd grade!
Science
In Science next week we will continue exploring forces. We will look at magnetism and gravity and how our lives are affected by them. We will pose the question “What would life on Earth be like without gravity?”
Reading/Writing
During writing this week we will be collecting information on an animal species and beginning to frame their draft. Our Reading will blend into this activity. Learners will practice identifying the main idea and supporting details of nonfiction texts. We will work with sentence structure and add in correct punctuation marks for simple and compound sentences.
Social Studies
We are still working in our citizenship and government unit. Our focus will be on the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and the Constitution.
