Fall Conferences

Early dismissal day on Thursday, October 6 - school gets out at 12:30.

Fall conferences are Friday, October 7. You will start your conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, then after 10 minutes, switch to your child’s other teacher. If you need translating help, please let your child’s teacher know! There is a service we can use, and we are happy to help. We want everyone to be included so we can talk all about your fabulous kiddo!

Color Run

Math

We’re rollin’ down a river…of multiplication! Doot doot doot doot! ‘Bout to grab my Tina Turner wig and take this show on the road! This is a big moment in 3rd grade math; we spend a long time really getting comfortable with all things multiplication. This week, we will work on representing multiplication with equal groups, arrays, number lines, and repeated addition. We are also starting our Math TIME (Technology, Independent, Making Meaning, and Enrichment), which we are very excited about! Your kiddos will be working on activities that reinforce the math skills they’ve already learned, and we will be teaching the new skills through several small group lessons each day. It’s gonna be a great time, and we are coming in hot, people!

Science

Out with the old, in with the new!  We are excited to start our new unit…Force, Motion and Energy!  This week we will begin our new unit with exploring different forms of energy.  This week we will focus on Light and Sound and how it is used in our everyday life.

Reading/Writing

It’s change over time in all subject areas it seems.  We are closing our units on fiction and narrative writing for the time being.  Next week we will start our new units: “Reading to Learn” and “Writing to Teach”.  We will be doing all things nonfiction and informational. As this year is a big transition in reading and writing for students it will be something we would love your support on!  Please be in conversation with your kids about their favorite topics i.e. volcanoes, tornadoes, dinosaurs, crickets, gardening, classic rock music… Whatever their heart desires! We will be using information about their passions to write and teach in the style of informational essays.

Social Studies

As we continue to study culture, we will explore our roles as citizens in our country. We will discuss our responsibilities and civic duties and how they evolve as we grow older.
