What are we learning?

Math

In math, learners will continue to review topics covered this year and work on ports based on their individual needs and math goals.

Homefun: Reflex Math TWO times a week for FIFTEEN minutes


Language Arts

In reading this week, learners will continue research on a historical baseball figure that will tie into our field trip in May. In writing, learners will continue a unit of persuasive writing. The 30 book challenge reading log will be due on Monday, May 21st. If your child has misplaced their log, you may get a copy here.

Homefun: Packet due Friday, May 4th; Study for weekly spelling test; Razkids 2 times a week for 15 minutes

Science

In science, learners will investigate and compare how plants undergo a series of orderly changes in the diverse life cycle.

Social Studies

In social studies, learners will be creating products for a mock economic marketplace.

What are we learning?

Math

In math, learners will finish their unit on measurement focusing on differentiating between liquid volume/capacity and with and determining who unit of measurement is used when measuring that attribute. We will continue to use a variety of measurement tools to determine volume and weight, as well as using benchmark units to estimate liquid volume and weight.

In reading this week, learners will use clues from the text and their schema to draw conclusions about a passage. In writing, learners will begin a unit of persuasive writing. Science

Organisms and environments have been a BIG focus the past month in science. Your child should be able to describe patterns, cycles, systems, and relationships within the environments as we wrap up this unit.

We even experienced a first Breakout EDU in science this week which was the perfect collaborative, kinesthetic activity that reinforced are learning about the adaptations of animals. It was so fun watching your children problem solve and use their critical thinking skills while trouble shooting through the challenges they had to unlock the bird beak antidote!

Questions might look like:
- The source of energy for all the organisms in the food chain? (the sun)
- A student planted a flower in a pot filled with beach sand. The student planted a flower in a pot filled with beach sand. The student later sat that pot in the window and watered it twice a day. After two weeks, the plant turned brown and died. Explain why.

Social Studies

In social studies, learners will continue with their  research project over the different regions of the United States.

Learner will focus on understanding and exploring corresponding/ equivalent fractions.

In reading, learners will conclude their study on folktales. They will continue reading about Greek myths and particpate in a "Escape the Classroom" activity based on mythology. In writing, learners will create a myth with focus on the editing and revising portions of the writing process.

Science

Learners will know that organisms undergo similar life processes and have structures that help them survive within their environments.
