Snacks

 We will have a short snack time each day, while we work, to keep our brains and bodies fueled for learning. In order to ensure a safe classroom environment for everyone, we ask that you please DO NOT send any snacks that contain peanuts/tree nuts. Please send a small, healthy snack (ex: fruit, cereal, crackers, goldfish, etc.) each day that does not require a fork or spoon to eat. Additionally, please send a water bottle with a sports (no spill) top daily.

iPad Resources/Updates/Charging

As we start to get into our day to day routines, we will begin using our iPads daily. Please help remind your child to charge their iPad's each night! This is extremely important as we have a VERY limited amount of chargers in the classroom, as well as, charging space.

What we are learning

Math - It’s a vibe, y’all - a place value vibe! What an ingenious system: we can understand the value of a number just by looking at the location of the digits inside that number. Amazing! In third grade, we will learn place value to the hundred thousands place, and last week, we reviewed the 2nd grade skill of expanded form  and applied it by practicing it with numbers up to the hundred thousands. Writing numbers in standard form sounds very fAHNcy, but really it means “hey pal, just write the number”). This week we will learn and practice the new 3rd grade skill of expanded notation, and we will begin placing numbers on a number  line to get comfortable with rounding. Our number sense game - the basis of all math - is STROOOOONG.

Science - Always question, always wonder…Science is off and running!  This week we will start exploring our Properties of Matter Unit.  We will be asking What is matter, What are the properties of matter, and how can we classify matter.

ELAR - What do third grade readers and writers look like, act like and sound like?  

📚This week in Reading, we will continue building our reading lives through practicing our reading routines and expectations in the classroom. We are practicing choosing “good fit” books,  making connections as we read, and responding to reading.

📝This week in Writing, we will continue to brainstorm topics using our heart map and topics lists, practicing our writer’s workshop expectations and expanding on our ideas.

Ask your learner:

•  to show you the space they prepared at your house for reading.  How does it help them to prepare for reading? 

• what they placed in their heart map during our writing workshop! 

Social Studies - Our first unit is Social Studies all about building community.  We are finding things we have in common with our classmates so we can start with a strong classroom community. Ask you kids about who in their class they have found connections with!

Field Day - Read ALL

What to Wear:

Bathing Suit Due to the active nature of the day, one-piece or tankinis are the best.

Shoes that can get wet & dirty - Flip-flops, Crocs, water shoes, or sneakers that are easy to take on and off are great. No socks are needed.

Grade Level T-Shirt or shirt of the same color if they don’t have one: Kinder- Green; 1st- Maroon; 2nd- Red; 3rd- Blue; 4th- Grade; 5th- Yellow 

 

What to Bring:

Sunscreen- Make sure to apply before school and send your child extra.

Towel

Water Bottle

Dry Change of Clothes

Optional- hat and/or sunglasses

 

Other Details:

Lunch- Sack lunches are available through the cafeteria, or you can bring your own. Make sure to let your child’s teacher know if they are getting school sack lunch. Your child’s lunchtime may differ from their usual schedule, so if your child is bringing a sack lunch, make sure they come to school with it in the morning. 

Swimming- Lifeguards will be on duty and life jackets will be provided for those that need one. Parents will not be able to join our students in the pool to swim. There is a variety of seating around the pool area for volunteers that are present.  If you plan to attend the pool station, please make sure to first check in at the TCE front office before coming to the pool. Pool schedule for the day:

Kinder: 10:40 a.m. - 11:05 a.m.

First Grade: 11:05 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Second Grade: 9:50 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.

Third Grade: 9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.

Fourth Grade: 12:20 p.m. - 1:10 p.m.

Fifth Grade: 1:10 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

LABEL EVERYTHING! Grade-level t-shirt, sunscreen, towel, water bottle, etc. 

Volunteers - Make sure to check in the front office to get your name badge. Your background check must already be completed and processed prior to field day.

Family Lunch Fridays

Our campus is open each Friday for lunch visitors! When you arrive you will sign in at the front office and receive a visitor badge that must be worn at all times. You will need a photo ID (license or passport). You will be able to eat lunch with your child at the designated tables for lunch visitors. You may only eat with your child. No other learners may be invited to eat with you. You may purchase lunch in the cafeteria or bring a lunch with you. Parents will be dismissed from the cafeteria. You will need to go back through the front office to sign out at the end of lunchtime. Please see Ms. Martin's Principal Newsletter for details on who may eat with your child and a form to fill out for non-parent lunch visitors. No lunch visitors on early release days. 

Background Checks

If you have not had a chance to fill out a background check please fill one out for yourself or update last year's! Click here to register as a new volunteer or confirm your information from last year. This must be completed every school year for you to volunteer at the school. The district will send you an email when your background check has cleared. Any opportunities for volunteering at the school, including holiday parties, will require a cleared background check. Once completed it lasts for the remainder of the school year.  When you create your account, make sure to click on the add new application button. (see picture below)

Teacher Appreciation Week

Thank you!!! First of all, we want to say thank you to each of you!  You have made us feel so loved and appreciated by this teacher appreciation week. From homemade cards, flowers, thoughtful gifts, hugs, and words of appreciation from your children and families, we are so very thankful. 

Second, we would like to thank our PTO. This incredible week of celebration and appreciation would not be possible without our incredible PTO and many of you parents who helped serve on various committees. We are so thankful for our PTO and all they do both to celebrate teachers and help make our school such a wonderful place. Many thanks! 

May 6 Bond Election Information

Coppell ISD residents, who are registered to vote may cast a ballot in the May 6 Bond Election. Voters will be asked to vote "FOR" or "AGAINST" the $321.5 million bond measure on May 6. In accordance with state law, the bond referendum will be presented as four separate propositions.

Field Trip

We are excited about about upcoming Field Trip to the Heard Museum in McKinney!  We will be going Wednesday, May 10th.  We will send home detailed information on Monday, May 8th regarding expectations, what to expect on the day of and what to bring.
