Color Run
TCE Color Run Tonight!
Our Color Run is this evening! Our Color Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Funds raised will pay for the classroom grants we fund in November, field trip buses, Field Day, and Teacher Appreciation Week.
A few things to remember:
Donations:
It is not too late to donate! Visit https://www.towncenterpto.org/color_run_2023. Family and friends can donate as well if they would like to support TCE. Classes are still working to earn prizes as a group! The more the class raises, the more rewards the class enjoys together! Parents and non-TCE siblings can also participate in the run with our students by registering at the link above. This $20 registration fee for parents and non-TCE students goes towards class donation totals.
Run Schedule:
Kindergarteners will run first at 5:45 p.m., with each subsequent grade starting every five minutes after the grade level before them. Once every grade has gone, each grade will go a second time around the school in the same order. Parents are encouraged to register at the link above to join their child(ren) in the run or cheer them on from the sidelines.
Food:
For those who pre-ordered pizza, it will be available at 5:30 p.m. Frozen treats and water can be purchased at the run.
Auction:
There will be a small auction at the Color Run. Some of the items include reserved seats at 5th grade graduation and half-day staff student positions (e.g. Librarian for half a day).
Red Ribbon Week
The 2023 Red Ribbon Week Theme is "Be Kind to your Mind. Live Drug Free.™" This theme was submitted by Danielle Helm of Kentucky and is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!
“I chose this theme because drugs alter our current brain development and hinders further growth. Drugs decrease levels of neurotransmitters in the reward system of our brain, such as Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. This can block our brain from naturally experiencing happiness,” said Danielle. “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free. ™” is about making positive choices to be happy and healthy - that is being kind to our mind.” -www.redribbon.org

Monday 10/23 - Make Healthy Choices to Accomplish Your Dreams (PJs/Sweats)
Tuesday 10/24 - Healthy Choices are the Key to a Bright Future (Neon/Tie Dye)
Wednesday 10/25 - The Future "Me" Lives Mindfully (Future Profession)
Thursday 10/26 - Let's Team Up to be Healthy (Sports Attire)

Yearbooks for Sale
Our yearbook sale is now open! Each year we have a Town Center Yearbook that highlights photos from every class, school events, and staff. It is a great item to have to look back on memories from the year, and we even have a yearbook signing party in May. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, please see the graphic below for thee different purchasing options. As a reminder, the TCE Yearbook cost WAS NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass. If you would like a yearbook for your child(ren), you will need to purchase using the website link below.
Our yearbook committee would also love your help in submitting photos for the yearbook. As you attend campus events, if you have any photos you would like to share, see below for information on uploading them to our committee.

Book Character Pumpkin Extravaganza
A Note from Mrs. Mancuso
It's that time of year! Fall leaves, cool air (I hope), and PUMPKINS! The TCE Library presents the Book Character Pumpkin Extravaganza! Your child or family can decorate a pumpkin as a book character. Please NO CARVED pumpkins. You may decorate, paint, glue, etc a real or fake pumpkin to look like a character from a book. Please include a paper or index card with your child's name, class, character's name and book title. Pumpkins may be dropped off in the library anytime through October 27th and will be sent home October 30th. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Mancuso at kmancuso@coppellisd.com
Thanksgiving Baskets
St. Ann’s Catholic Parish is once again sponsoring Thanksgiving basket deliveries (or a pickup option at St Ann’s Church if you prefer). This program provides families in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The baskets will be delivered to your home the weekend before Thanksgiving, so it is important that an adult representing the family be at the home between the hours of Noon and 4PM on Sunday November 19th, 2023. The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 20th, 2023.
Please completely fill out the following form by clicking this link: 2023 St. Ann's Thanksgiving Baskets. You may contact Nurse Crenshaw with any questions at kcrenshaw@coppellisd.com or 214-496-7816.

What we are learning
Math - We are ready to represent multiplication with Strip Diagrams! Say what?! I can hear the chorus now: “What in the world are those?” Believe me, I was born in 1979, so I feel you. And in further #newmath news, a strip diagram doesn’t necessarily help them find the answer, but it is a quick drawing that helps your child visualize what’s happening in the multiplication word problem. Here are 2 examples for 3x12 and 4x5:
Strip diagrams will segue nicely into learning about multiplication word problems, where we use the thinking pattern of EGPT, or Equal Groups Put Together. A thinking pattern is like a strip diagram in that it helps us think about what multiplication is and how it works: we are putting equal groups together to find the total. Finally, at the end of the week, we will start learning strategies for 2 by 1 digit multiplication. How impressed are you with your 3rd grader right now? They are amazing and rocking this multiplication work! Keep learning those facts to 10!
Science - Next week we will explore pushes and pulls and how applying the force changes an objects position. We will also look at friction and how it affects the speed of an object.
ELAR - In both reading and writing, we are continuing our work in the nonfiction genre. We will continue to explore captions, titles, and other text features to help us understand what we read. In writing, we will continue studying the development of paragraphs through stating main ideas and providing supporting details.
Ask your learner to tell you about the features of a non-fiction book and how they help readers understand!
Social Studies - In social studies we continue our citizenship and government unit, building on the mind mission challenge we completed last week. Ask your learner about the gift their team worked on to welcome Ruby Bridges to school and how our 3rd grade community would help her feel included.
