Important Reminders

Reminder: 2nd Nine Weeks Learning Mode Commitment Form

You all should have received an email from the district regarding the commitment process for the second grading period, which begins on Tuesday, October 13th, and goes through Friday, December 18th. Remember, you will only need to fill out a commitment form for the second grading period if you are CHANGING your commitment decision for the second grading period. If you are wanting to keep the same mode of learning your child has now, you do not need to fill it out. The deadline for commitments for the second grading period is Wednesday, September 30th.

Checking Grades and Comments on Schoology
We would love your help checking your child's grades on Schoology. We have explained to learners how to do this, however, an extra set of eyes is always helpful.

1. At the top of you child's Schoology home page is a red ribbon with the word "Grades". Please click that.

2. There will be a dropdown menu, please select the first option at the top, "Grade Report".

3. Once you have clicked on Grade Report, each of your child's subjects will populate for you to click on.

4. There you will see a paper icon if they have submitted an assignment, and a grade out of 3. If they have a 1 or a 2 they should go back to fix their submission. The 4 squares will take you to a rubric where you will see a comment about why they have received that score.
5. If you do not see a paper icon on the right, they have not submitted the assignment and need to do that ASAP.

Doctor's Appointments/Absences
You do not need to notify the office of any doctors appointments or absences. Any work that your kiddo misses can be completed upon their return. They will earn credit and be considered present as long as the work for the day is complete before midnight.

What are we learning?

Math: This week learners will continue addition and subtraction. Monday and Tuesday we will review subtracting with regrouping across 0's. The rest of the week will be spent practicing addition and subtraction word problems. We will take the math MAP test on Thursday October 1st. We ask that you do not help your learners with this test so that it is an accurate depiction of their knowledge and growth.

Language Arts: In reading we will be wrapping up our fiction unit. We will be discussing how to think more deeply about our reading by asking deeper questions and talking back to the text. We will be taking our post assessment and celebrating the end of our unit! We will take the reading MAP test on Monday October 5th. We ask that you do not help your learners with this test so that it is an accurate depiction of their knowledge and growth.

In Writing, we will be wrapping up our unit on personal narratives.  Learners will write a narrative piece and will focus on how to make transitions, introductions, and conclusions stronger.

Science: This week in science we will learn all about mixtures and solutions. We will take the science MAP test on Tuesday September 29th. We ask that you do not help your learners with this test so that it is an accurate depiction of their knowledge and growth.

Social Studies: In Social Studies, learners will continue to discuss the characteristics of a good citizen.  We will focus on showing respect for others and ourselves as well as what it means to have responsibility in our daily life.
