What are we learning?
Math
In math, learners will be learning different addition strategies including the break apart strategy and the standard algorithm. We will learn thinking patterns for addition that will help learners identify when addition is the correct operation in word problems. Our place value post test will be this coming Monday, October 30th.
Language Arts
In Language Arts, we are coming to the end of our fiction unit. We will be continuing to discuss context clues and how to overcome the hurdles of hard words and phrases in order to increase overall comprehension and understanding. Within context clues, we will be touching on figurative language and how to use context to understand its meaning. We will also be discussing genre and how to tell what genre a book is, as well as continuing to set and monitor reading goals.
Science
In science, learners will learn about mixtures. We will also be completing our first career connection trade card of the year for the properties of matter unit.
